The sound track, exactly as it was

A video stores sound in a track separate from the picture, almost always as AAC (phone and social media videos), Opus (WEBM) or MP3. Extract audio pulls out that track without re-encoding it: the result is bit-for-bit identical to the video's sound, with no quality loss at all, and the process is very fast.

If you're going to edit the audio in a program like Audacity, Premiere or DaVinci Resolve, choose WAV: it's the easiest format to edit and any program opens it.

Original or WAV?

Original

Exact quality and a light file. Depending on the video, you'll get an M4A (AAC), OPUS, OGG, MP3, FLAC or WAV. Uncommon formats are saved as high-quality M4A.

WAV

Uncompressed audio, compatible with any editor, console or professional system. It's considerably larger.

What if I need MP3?

Use Video to MP3, which converts the sound to MP3 at the quality you choose.

Videos with several languages

If the video has several audio tracks, the first one is extracted, which is normally the main one.
