Text documents: excellent
Letters, contracts, reports and résumés created in Word or a similar program convert very well: the text is editable and the formatting is very close.
Turn your PDF into an editable Word document so you can fix, update or reuse the content without retyping it.
We turn it into a Word document (DOCX) you can edit: paragraphs, tables and images.
Your files are processed temporarily and deleted automatically.
Upload a PDF of up to 50 MB and 100 pages.
We rebuild paragraphs, tables and images in Word.
Download the DOCX and edit it like any document.
Someone sends you a contract as a PDF and you need to change a few clauses; you find your old résumé but only have the PDF; or you want to update an office form someone saved without the original file. Instead of retyping everything, PDF to Word rebuilds the document as a DOCX so you can edit it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.
The conversion analyzes the position of each piece of text on the page and turns it into Word paragraphs, tables and images, trying to respect the original's fonts, sizes and margins.
Letters, contracts, reports and résumés created in Word or a similar program convert very well: the text is editable and the formatting is very close.
Tables with lines are rebuilt as Word tables with their rows and columns. You may need to adjust the width of a column.
Brochures, magazines or documents with many columns, text boxes and overlapping elements are converted, but usually need some elements rearranged afterwards.
A scanned PDF is a photo of each page and contains no text. The resulting Word file will have the pages as images, and we'll let you know when it's done.
Select or drag the file. For documents over 100 pages, split it first with Split PDF or keep only the pages you need using Extract pages.
Press "Convert to Word". A short document takes a few seconds; a long one, up to a couple of minutes.
Open the DOCX and check line breaks, tables and headers before making your changes.
If you're only changing a date, a name or a number, there's no need to convert: with Edit PDF you fix the text right on the PDF and the design stays exactly the same.
Converting to Word makes sense when you'll rewrite whole paragraphs, add sections, change the design or reuse the content in another document. When you finish your changes, you can create the PDF again with Word to PDF.
This happens with free-form PDFs (brochures, invitations). Copy the text from those boxes and paste it into a normal paragraph, or use Edit PDF if the change is small.
Scans are images. Getting editable text requires text recognition (OCR), a feature we don't offer yet. In the meantime, Google Drive can do it: upload the PDF and open it with Google Docs.
If the PDF uses a font you don't have installed, Word replaces it with another. Select all the text and choose a similar font, such as Calibri or Arial.
PDFs with an open password can't be converted. Open it with your password, save it without protection and try again.
Your PDF is sent to our server only to convert it. The original PDF is deleted as soon as the Word document is ready, and the result is available through a private link that's deleted automatically shortly after. We don't look at the content of your files or share them with third parties.
For text documents it's very close, but not always identical: a PDF stores exact positions while Word works with paragraphs that reflow on their own. Check the result before sending it.
